About
HISTORY
The Home Builders Association of Northwest Iowa is an association of builders, developers, subcontractors and related businesses who are dedicated to providing a quality home and suitable environment for the people in our community. Our objectives are:
- To encourage and foster high ethical standards in our profession
- To take active interest in the welfare of our communities
- To exchange ideas, business methods and transactions with other builders and associations
- To strive for legislation beneficial to the home building industry
Members of the Home Builders Association of Northwest Iowa are also members of the Home builders Association of Iowa as well as the National Home Builders Association which has over 140,000 members, making it one of the most influential trade associations in the country.
Our local chapter formed in the late 1970’s and as the economy expanded in the northwest Iowa our membership grew. In 1994, our association was officially incorporated. Then in 1998, the Greg Magg Memorial Scholarship was established to scholarship young men and women who are interested in pursuing an occupation in any technical area relating to building or related vocations. The Association members have served as an advisory board for the trade programs at Iowa Lakes Community College and local high schools.
In 1990 the Association began sponsoring the Annual Parade of Homes and Building Product Show that attracts thousands of potential customers from throughout the Midwest. The funds raised through the Parade of Homes has enabled the Association to give back to the community by contributing our talent and money to area projects. Over the years we have added to our scholarship fund, given support to Camp Foster, Bedell Family YMCA, Lakes Area Land & Trust, ReNew Store, Habitat for Humanity, Upper Des Moines and local community projects. This is all made possible through the numerous members of local builders, developers, subcontractors, businesses and most certainly through the support of our community over the years.
